On The Dock

This month returning anglers from the John’s Pass area are featured in the ongoing series, “On the Dock”. We at www.fishprocharters.com welcome input from marinas and guides regardless of location for inclusion in this series. The fishing guides in this series are all USCG certified merchant marine officers and are professional full time guides.

Spending an enjoyable day with Captain Dane Karcher, one of the FishProCharters local guides produced a boat load of fish for Tommy Dean and his family. Tommy and group were visiting Madeira Bay Marina in Madeira Beach, FL from Jasper, Georgia. See pictures of a couple of Cobia that were part of the catch. Mrs. Dean is being assisted by our intrepid booking agent Stan Ryan.

On the right Captain Kellen Ankrum of FishProCharters brings visitors from Cincinnati, OH, Dave, Dave, and Dan back to the dock at Madeira Bay Marina. ” Little Tuny”, mackerel, and other fish were among the catch. Dave and Dan hefting two of the “tunies” (Bonita) they hooked and landed.

A couple of Sundays ago, Captain Kellen Ankrum picked up a mystery crew, (that booked through FishProCharters via a local music producer), in the Vinoy Yacht Basin at the Vinoy Park seawall. Captain Ankrum stated that he was a little wary of picking up an unknown party. As it turns out the crew turned out to be the producer of the Warp Tour, appearing that weekend in Vinoy Park, Kevin Lyman and friends and the fishing and trip was, to say the least, a hoot!

Kevin told Capt. Ankrum that they fish wherever they play, weather and circumstances permitting.

In an excerpt from “Kevin Lyman is Terminally Unemployable” at http://lifeinperpetualbeta.com/blog/uncategorized/kevinlyman/99  “Believe it or not, this was one of the first times I really talked to him about what he did and why, before this interview most of our conversations consisted of "off the road" topics, like our kids, or how to help the environment, or fishing…  In fact, every time I ask Kevin what he’d be doing if Warped Tour wasn’t around, he says he’d be a fishing guide!  Which, I guess, according to Kevin is all he could be, he says he’s been an entrepreneur for so long that he’s terminally unemployable, and he seems ok with that.”

Captain Jeff Gibson, right, prepares to shove off from the Madeira Bay Marina with the Matney  family from Valdosta, Ga. for a day on the flats hunting snook, trout, and redfish. The day was gorgeous and the kids returned victorious with their trophies and rosy cheeks from the Florida Sun.

Graeme Todman and family hail from the UK. Living outside London they have little opportunity to fish and enjoy the weather as they do each year when they visit us here in Florida. Out with Captain Kellen they returned with a pile of Spanish Mackeral, some of which, after Capt. Kellen had filleted the fish, were taken to Latitudes Restaurant at the marina and prepared for their table by Kelly and Geno. Graeme reported that they lost several fish to maurading barracuda and one of the boys was spooled on the light tackle by an unseen predator.

Captain Jesse Mayer and party arrived early Monday morning from a trip offshore to the 50’ and deeper areas off Johns Pass. They fished the night and early morning hours returning to the Sea Hags Restaurant dock at Blind Pass, with a fish locker full of grouper, snapper, and somewhat tired but smiling clients.

Captain Bill Nelson and Quality Time Charters returned from an offshore trip due west of John’s Pass with a fish locker full. Mate Austin Fraley shows off one of the Snapper. The fish box was a mixed bag of snappers, grouper and kingfish.
